I. Joel
• Written 841 BC
• Name means: “Jehovah is God” (Isa. 45:22)
• Prophet but not a priest
• Locusts – evil increasing and devouring good til nothing is left
• Day of the Lord (5 times) – far more than people can handle
• God forewarns…heed the warnings
• Key verses
• Joel 2:12-13 “rend your heart not your garments and return to me”
• Joel 2:25 “I (God) will repay what the locusts have eaten”
• Joel 2:28 “Afterward, I (God) will pour out my Spirit”
II. Amos
• Names means “Burden-bearer” (Gal. 6:2)
• “Covered” by an ancient hymn within the prophecy
• Written 760 BC
• Amos was a shepherd “fruit picker” – called while he was working (7:15)
• Prophesied at Bethel – seat of idolatry
• Oppression of working people by wealthy
• Israel was religious but superficial (2 Tim. 3:5)
• Wealth and material possessions equal spiritual blessing
• No favoritism for being “His chosen people” (1 Pet. 4:17)
• Absence of true worship creates a lack of justice (Matt. 23:23)

• Doom for all enemies of God and His people (Deut. 28:7)

• Obadiah 1:8 “Who will bring me down…?”
• Obadiah 1:10 “Shame shall cover you and you will be cut off forever”
