“Heavenly Bonds!”

There are 3 eternal foundations because of our relationship with Him that are built, maintained, and eventually completed. These are God’s “Super Glue” to hold all together (1 Cor. 13:13)

I. “These Three Abide “menō” remain; are eternal
These are graces – a state of sanctification (ongoing purity) enjoyed through divine assistance
Regardless of spiritual condition, circumstance, attitude-perspective-perception, social standing, etc… These remain
These are not gifts to be used or not used. These are bedrock to cling to or build upon.
These are God’s demonstration of presence in/thru us: Faith-Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23); Hope – Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13-14); Love – Father (1 Jn. 3:1)

II. Faith – “pistis” trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it…God supplies limitlessly, we use sparingly
Heb. 11:1 – It is the confidence and assurance of what our senses cannot confirm…(trust?!)
Matt. 17:19-21 – unbelief saps our foundation of assurance that the impossible is possible thru prayer/fasting (Matt. 9:26)
Jas. 2:15-19 – belief and faith are the difference between concept and result.

III. Hope – “elpis” joyful and confident expectation based upon security of the One making the promise
Ps. 42:11;43:5 – Diminishing hope encourages depression and silences praise.
Rom. 8:24-25 – Hope makes the waiting worthwhile (Christmas, B-Day, Anniversary – gift not earnings
Heb. 6:18-20 – Hope brings encouragement and security

IV. Love – “agape” sacrifice of the Self completely for another by which He can demand the same from His children
1 Jn. 4:16-21 – Sacrifice self because He did. Fear and hate are the absence of God’s love. Identity is gone; love remains
Faith, hope, love – are the sum of perfection on earth; love alone is the sum of perfection in heaven.

Verses for Heavenly Bonds
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Titus 2:13-14
while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
1 John 3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Matthew 17:19-21
Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Mark 9:29
He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting.
James 2:15-19
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
Psalm 42:11
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Romans 8:24-25
For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Hebrews 6:18-20
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

1 John 4:16-21

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Verses for In the Presence of my Enemies

Titus 1:1-3

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

Colossians 3:24

since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

1 Corinthians 12:28
