“We are Shining Lights…!”

“We are Shining Lights…!”
This next Sunday we will begin the celebration of Christ’s birth with a candlelight service. This practice began as a reminder that Jesus Christ came in human form to be the Light of the world. (Jn. 8:12) As He passed this “light” to us through the Holy Spirit at the time we begin our personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we celebrate “passing on His “Light” (the Gospel) to others through the lighting of candles one to another. This practice began in 1918 with what was called “The carol and the Candle” in London. We continue this practice in churches today as both a reminder of His Light and our responsibility to not only have His Light within, but also to pass His Light to others throughout the year! God’s Word has much to say about this topic…
Source of Light
God’s presence (Ex.34:29-30; Matt.17:2)
Personal relationship with God (Acts 9:3)
Promise of Christ’s return (Lk. 17:24)
God’s Blessings (Num. 6:25)
The Gospel (2 Cor. 4:6) Demonstration of Light
Good works (Matt. 5:16)
Unrestricted (Matt. 5:14)
Clear instruction (Eph. 5:8)
Blamelessness & Innocence (Phil. 2:15)
Wisdom & righteous example (Dan. 12:3)
Fellowship with believers (1 Jn. 1:7)
Eyewitness belief (Jn. 12:36)
Righteousness (Prov. 4:18; Matt. 13:43)
Armor of light (Rom. 13:12)
Salvation for others (Acts 13:47)
“Shining Lights” has also been revealed as God’s theme for this assembly of believers in 2018. In the coming weeks, we will seek to keep this command as our priority in our worship, service, and daily living!
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:16)
